What we do
Five programs, working together.
Conservation, governance, education, and restoration — designed to reinforce one another.
Marine stewardship —
reef, shark, patrol boat,
or fishers at sea
01 — Marine stewardship
Caring for Biak’s waters.
Supporting proper management of marine resources in Biak and surrounding waters: shark conservation, reef protection, sustainable fisheries, stronger marine protected area management, and community awareness.
02 — Governance & policy
Making community authority real.
Supporting the creation and strengthening of local regulations, district regulations, and community-led conservation frameworks — with indigenous leadership at the centre. A current example: shark protection regulations in Biak.
Governance & policy —
community meeting,
leaders signing, or
group discussion
Coral restoration —
coral nursery, diver
planting coral, or
healthy reef
03 — Coral restoration
A complement to protection.
Small-scale coral restoration that restores damaged reefs, builds local stewardship, and supports education. We see restoration as a complement to protection — never a substitute for it.
04 — Communities
No handouts. Local initiative first.
Supporting communities through environmental education, awareness campaigns, livelihood development, and capacity building. Communities first demonstrate commitment and ownership — outside support follows local initiative.
Communities —
education session,
local livelihoods, or
people at work
Forests & bamboo —
bamboo grove, planting,
or forest landscape
05 — Forests & sustainable materials
Bamboo over hardwood.
Promoting bamboo as a fast-growing, durable, sustainable material to reduce pressure on hardwood forests. Future expansion may include agroforestry, forest restoration, and community forestry initiatives.
